Dental Insurance Information
If you have dental insurance, make the most out of your investment by taking some time to understand how your benefits work -- and how you can take full advantage of them. Did you know that most insurance plans include two free checkups and cleanings every year? And if you need additional restorative treatments, those may be partially or completely covered, too. Learn more about how dental insurance works at Michael G. Hollingshead, DDS today.
What Insurance Do You Accept?
Our office happily accepts a number of PPO (preferred provider organization) dental insurance plans. Contact us to discuss which ones we are in-network with. We can help you by filing any necessary paperwork, too, to make receiving your dental care as easy as possible.
Dental insurance works much like your medical insurance. An in-network dentist is one who has come to an agreement with the dental insurance company to provide certain services at a reduced rate. A dental practice that is out-of-network with the provider has not come to any sort of agreement.
HMO (health maintenance organizations) allow greater freedom in choosing your provider, but the coverage is usually not as complete.
What Treatments Are Covered Under My Dental Plan?
Wondering what services you are eligible for under your specific plan? Knowing this information is key to making the most out of your dental insurance. You can find out what treatments are covered by calling your dental insurance provider directly. Many companies have convenient online portals or chat systems to make getting in touch easier. Prepare a list of questions to make sure you have all of your doubts regarding coverage resolved.
Some questions to ask your dental insurance provider include…
- Who is covered under my plan?
- What treatments are completely covered? Which are partially covered?
- Do I have a deductible? An annual maximum?
- When does my plan renew each year?
- Do I have to pay for preventive services to meet my deductible?
Remember that if you are insured through your employer, you can also learn this information through your human resources department.
Importance of Regular Preventive Care
Why do most dental insurance plans completely cover your regular preventive care? Because two checkups and cleanings every year, along with an annual set of x-rays to peek below to visible surface, are the best way to prevent the need for bigger, more costly treatments later on. Make sure you are taking advantage of your free preventive care by scheduling a checkup and cleaning every six months. We will remove plaque and tartar buildup from your teeth to reduce your risk of developing cavities and gum disease. Then we will check for the small signs of larger issues -- like decay, infection, worn dental work, and even oral cancer.
Are you taking full advantage of your dental insurance benefits? That’s two checkups and cleanings, x-rays, and help paying for necessary restorative or cosmetic treatments, too. Please contact our office and schedule an appointment to discuss maximizing your benefits today.
